Tackling patients’ fear of the tumor is a great challenge : Dr. Mayur V Kaku – ETHealthworld.com

Shahid Akhter, Editor, ETHealthworld spoke to Dr. Mayur V Kaku, consultant neurosurgeon at HCG Hospital, Bangalore and NIMHANS, to know more about the latest developments in treating the Neuro-oncology patients.

Neuro-Oncology: Latest Advancements When neuro-oncology started in the 19th century, it was based only on the neurological symptoms of the patient.

At that time, there were no investigations available. The patients were operated, based on the deficits or the paralysis or any neurological symptom. They were getting evaluated based on it, the skulls were opened and the spine was opened for the treatment but now after around 120 years, we are at a stage where we can gauge the extent of the spread of the disease within the brain or the spine with the help of various investigatory techniques like MRI of the brain.

We have excellent MRI machines, pet CTs which can gauge the extent of the disease not only in the brain or the spine, but all across the body. We have further, many investigations like electronic neuro myography and EEG. All these things help us to analyze the depth before opening the skull or the spine.

Neuro-Oncology : HCG InitiativesAt HCG, we have an integrated approach where we take care of not only the patient's tumor as well as take care of the patient's fear of the tumor. We use various aspects like psycho-oncology, yoga, and various other preventative oncology techniques.

Through this, we help the patients to cross the bridge of the treatment as well as the fear of the treatment. At HCG, I have been practicing yoga with my patients, and with the help of it, I have been able to reduce the stay-off of patients inside the hospital. This practice results in maintaining the neurological deficits, the fear about the disease being reduced, and most importantly, which everyone wants happiness. I have been able to provide happiness in many of my patients.

Parenting in the Time of COVID: How the pandemic presents challenges and opportunities for Maui’s mothers – Maui Time

At some point today my bedroom, which now functions as an office, school, and meeting room, will be turned into a wild playground. While trying to write these words, my three school-aged children will pile in out of routine boredom, looking for something to do after making their daily rounds through the house. When this ruckus happens, as is inevitable after weeks stuck at home, I know one thing: My partner and childrens mother has my back.

Yesterday, she saved the day with colored markers and paper, and the Three Marker Challenge. Today, for now at least, she has them occupied with Lego Challenge Cards sent to us from our kids elementary school technology lab.

Life under COVID-19 is part balancing act, part magic trick. We have work, school, meals to prepare, claims to file, a future to plan, and three kids under the age of 10 all crammed into one living space, 24/7. While moms and dads are used to keeping up with the many demands of children, family, and household, the games changed. After almost two months of school-at-home, kids are restless, cooped indoors, and absorbing the uncertainty and anxiety surrounding the time were in. Moms magic tricks, pulled out of a hat at a moments notice to redirect any wayward kiddo, have taken center stage.

Mothers Day will be different this year. Social distancing rules mean there will be no brunch out with Mom at a nice restaurant, spa days, or family beach outings this Sunday. But now perhaps more than ever, Moms deserve to be celebrated for all they are doing in families stuck at home across the island.

Balancing is one word for it! says Kate Griffiths, editor in chief of Mauimama Magazine and mother of an 11-year old and 13-year-old. My plate was already pretty full, but the pandemic has taken it to a whole different level.

One minute Im helping my son review chapter 25 of To Kill a Mockingbird, to switching gears remotely shadowing a councilmember during budget, to answering community concerns and questions via The Mauimama, to helping my 5th grader with perfect nouns, to holding up a friend trying to make sense of the insanity, all while trying to help create a more sustainable infrastructure for my community that relies less on tourism, to making sure a good meal is put on the table and the house is still tolerable to live in, says Griffiths, who also works for Councilmember Kelly King. The bags under my eyes tell my story louder than I can, but things are easing up a little as budget season winds down and the new norm has become well the new norm.

I have had to remind myself I am on maternity leave and this is my time to get to know and bond with my son, says Kerry Foltz, a high school teacher and mother of a newborn. Shes been taking extra precautions to isolate her son from possible exposure to the virus. I wont have this time forever. I am still trying to do my best to provide lessons and enrichment to students, but I need my full attention in one place or the other. Thats what is nice about a dedicated work day. Now, I find myself making lessons outside of work hours because I simply cannot when my baby needs me and is awake.

The new norm may look a bit different for each family, but to some its an opportunity to rethink priorities and values.

My priorities changed dramatically, says Krystal Cabiles, mother of 7- and 10-year-old daughters. Balancing this circus is quite a fiasco at times. My main priority now is educating my children and keeping them happy and healthy, whereas pre-COVID I relied on their teachers and school to do so If I am being completely honest, I am barely balancing it all. Some days on the verge of tears. I must remind myself constantly to breathe. There is no right or wrong in how I choose to deal with what is going on. If I can accomplish just one thing that day, its a win. I try not to worry so much about the unforeseeable future. I tackle today and make a game plan for tomorrow, but that is as far ahead that I can control.

In the beginning we had a schedule, says Jen Mather, but its completely degenerated into a Wild West free-for-all interspersed with my eldest daughter trying to watch all 40 seasons of Survivor. It is a little like Survivor;everyone fends for themselves. Were always late to online meetings and in-person assistance, which is strange because in non-COVID-19 times we were always early. Thankfully my girls are old enough to do things on their own for themselves, and even sometimes for me Except for dishes. Dear God, all the dishes.

I wish I could be more involved in [my childrens] schooling, says Councilmember Tamara Paltin, mother of two children under the age of 10. I do worry that they arent getting enough education because I have so much work and Im not able to keep up and help them as much, since they are in [Hawaiian] immersion and my husband and I went to English language school. Since I was elected, the olelo [language] classes have gotten harder and harder to attend. Overall I just try not to worry too much and do the best I can at any given moment.

Its given her kids the chance to step up. Things all evolved to work out and they got used to being more independent and responsible in some areas, Paltin says.

Being home alone with the kids, while working nearly 80 hours a week throughout the Countys budget session, trying to fit in schoolwork with my children, while managing our families most basic needs, like groceries, hygiene, emotional support, sleep schedules, taking care of animals, etc., brought about severe feelings of inadequacy as a parent, says Sarah Freistat Pajimola, a mother of two children ages 4 and 7 who works for Councilmember Keani Rawlins-Fernandez.

As someone that survives and thrives with order, schedules, and structure, suddenly that delicate balancing act that every mother somehow pulls off while wobbling on a thin thread of sanity was shoved into a confined space where carefully coordinated worlds collided. It took longer than friends and family members advised, for me to let go and realize everything was going to have to just be, says Freistat Pajimola. Accepting chaos and imperfection was hard, but everyone was better off for it. Now that budget session is over, and we are returning to a more manageable work schedule, I am looking forward to creating some healthy routines for us all.

Its a common theme with mothers I speak to. Moms, expected to be ever-selfless, expect the same from themselves even now, in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic and global crisis. But in defining the new normal, some mothers have found, is an opportunity.

Even through the madness, I can honestly say that I have thoroughly enjoyed being home with my family and dont want things to return to normal, says Freistat Pajimola. This virus has forced us all to reflect on everything important that has been neglected in our busy lives. I realize that I really missed my kids and being home enough to enjoy them and it.

Go easy on yourself and them too, there is no right or wrong way to survive or thrive during a global pandemic, she advises. Stay safe and healthy, breathe through the stressful times, laugh loud and long, and cuddle as much as humanly possible. Eventually, quarantine will be over, and you might just miss it.

If there is a personal silver lining to this pandemic, for my family, it is that the quality time together, quarantining and working on-island, coupled with them not being in school, have allowed us to enjoy meals together. Breakfast, lunch, and sometimes even dinner. That means a lot to all of us, says Councilmember Keani Rawlins-Fernandez of Molokai, mother of two. As parents, know youre doing the best you can, and try not to compare yourself to what it seems like others are able to do on social media. Mom-guilt is real. But try to see yourself from your childrens eyes. Have patience. Breathe when patience runs thin, for your children wont be this young forever. We get one opportunity to have them at 8 or 10 years old, and thats it. Enjoy them at this age.

Griffiths agrees. Personally, I have a small window before my sons will be too cool to hang out with me and then go off to college. Until then Im soaking up every day that I can go find them in a nearby room to hug and kiss them. We are safe, healthy and happy and this time to reset has not gone amiss.

This too shall pass. Everything has its season and if you can turn this into an opportunity to connect with your keiki and help with your childs growth it will be time well spent. Some days are definitely more trying than others. Reach out to a friend or family member on those days, even though we are isolated in our homes you do not need to do this alone. We are enduring a pandemic. These are not normal times. Check in with your children regularly and listen. Allow them to be heard and connect with them. Reach out to local organizations if you need assistance or support with anything, there is a great sense of community and amazing people on the islands who are here to help. And most of all be gentle on yourself. No one can be everything to everyone.

Hold your little ones tightly and do what works for you and your family, take it day by day and find solace that you are trying your best.

Take the poll: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/stayathomekids

Happy Mothers Day to all the moms holding it down across the island, especially the one keeping me and the kids sane during this pandemic and my own mom who put up with me back when I was a wayward kiddo. Griffiths recommends two resources for parents of school-aged children and anyone in need of assistance during these times: the Keiki Central database online at Auw211.org/keikicentral and via phone by dialing 211, and Islands of Hope which is available at 808-214-0781.

Eight Student Teams Named National Winners of 28th Annual ExploraVision Competition – Business Wire

ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Toshiba and the NSTA today announced eight national winners of the 28th annual Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision competition, the worlds largest K-12 science competition. This years winners have shared innovative proposals to help overcome some of the greatest challenges facing the world today, from healthcare challenges to sustainability efforts to energy efficiency.

The Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision competition is designed to help students develop the skills emphasized in the Next Generation Science Standards, including problem-solving, critical-thinking and collaboration skills. To participate, students must imagine and produce a system or a technology with the potential to solve the problems of the future. Regional finalist ideas were judged by a multidisciplinary panelist of scientists across various sectors of government (e.g. NIH, NASA, NSF), academic researchers, biotechnology scientists and physician researchers.

For 28 consecutive years, we have been impressed by the creativity that students across the U.S. and Canada have shown while participating in the ExploraVision competition, and we are continually inspired by their commitment to improving the quality of life for people around the world, said Ms. Ayumi Wada, Chairwoman & CEO, Toshiba America, Inc. Together with their coaches, mentors, family and friends, these students have pushed the limits of modern science and imagined solutions to some of the worlds biggest, most complex challenges, bringing us closer to making these solutions realities.

ExploraVision is an extraordinary showcase of the ingenuity, passion and dedication of so many capable students from across the U.S. and Canada, said Dennis Schatz, NSTA President. Congratulations to all of this years national winning teams. These students are tackling real issues and envisioning viable solutions that could make a real difference in the world around them. I am proud and inspired by their work and grateful for their efforts.

The eight winning projects of the 28th Annual ExploraVision Competition reflect impressive ideas ranging from biotechnology applications to preserve the coral reefs, to sensor-enabled interfaces that enable safe play for visually impaired children.

Medical Treatment and Safety InnovationsDuring a year characterized by threats to global health and safety, it is appropriate that a major theme among this years submissions and winning teams projects focuses on the prevention and treatment of illnesses, as well as on safety solutions to protect accident and injury.

One team of 11th graders from The Bronx High School of Science in N.Y., shared a potential treatment that would slow the progression of the neurodegenerative disease, Alzheimers, which according to the Alzhiemers Association affects more than 5 million Americans today and is expected to rise to nearly 14 million patients by 2050. The Neurofibrillary De-Tangler, proposed by these students aims to treat Alzheimers by inhibiting the hyperphosphorylation of the protein, which is the primary cause of the progression and symptoms of the disease.

A group of third graders from L.D. Batchelder Elementary School in North Reading, Mass., introduced the Playfinder, a tool that will enable visually impaired children to safely navigate their surroundings when on a playground with their peers. The Playfinder device would leverage miniaturized LiDAR cameras to build a digital map of the playground surroundings and leverage cloud computing technologies to deliver wayfinding directions to the user to help with navigation.

Finally, a group of 12th graders from the Alabama School of Math & Science in Mobile, Ala., have identified a solution to a rising problem among a growing community of patients who have received artificial joint replacements. By 2030, the total number of hip and knee replacements is expected to grow by more than 200 percent. However, a subset of that population can come down with an infection in the artificial joint often years after surgery. This group presented a simple, molecular alteration for inclusion in artificial joints that would provide immunological defense within the artificial joints and prevent infection down the line, which they call Self-Immunizing Joint Replacements.

Sustainability and Ecosystem Preservation

Climate change poses a major threat to global food security, natural systems and our overall livelihoods. Building on important conversations around climate and natural resource preservation, two of this years winning projects suggested innovative, remote monitoring solutions to help preserve natural ecosystems.

One team of first and second graders from Friday Harbor Elementary School, Friday Harbor, Wash., developed the Get Away! Bacteriophage, a small submarine machine that can monitor aquatic levels of harmful alga blooms (HABs). If the ratio of HABs rises to a point that would be dangerous to sea lifeincluding fish, dolphins, sharks and coralthe Get Away! device will release phages, which are frequently used in antibiotics, to kill the harmful algae.

Another team made up of fourth graders from St. Joseph School in Seattle, Wash., proposed a solution to support the honeybee populations, which are critical for the pollination of more than 70 percent of the worlds crops. To hinder the spread of Colony Collapse Disorder, which kills 40 percent of honeybees in the U.S. every year, the team developed the AI Medic Bee, an artificial intelligence enabled device designed to look similar to a honeybee and operate within the bee hive without disrupting the natural cycle. The AI Medic Bee would monitor conditions in the beehive and be able to dispense necessary medications to the bees within the hive, should it detect signs of Colony Collapse.

Energy Efficiency and Green Power

Higher-than-ever demand for natural resources such as coal, oil and gas are threatening finite energy resources. Several of this years national winners sought to lessen humanitys annual demand for natural resources.

Seventh and eighth graders from McCullough Jr. High School in The Woodlands, Tex., proposed an innovative way to compost plastic waste to reduce the impact of plastic pollution on our environment and convert plastic into electrical energy sources. The solution would leverage a form of algae, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, to biodegrade the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from plastic bottles and convert the carbon harvested from the process to electrical energy.

A group of sixth graders from Northmoor Elementary School in Engelwood, Ohio, observed an efficiency issue in airline jet engines. Today, jet engines are only 30 percent energy efficient, but airline travel remains a necessity of modern transportation ecosystems. So, to reduce the energy impact of air travel, this team has proposed the development of Ground-based Airport Runway (G-BAR) Turbines that would leverage the exhaust air generated by aircraft turbines to turn a turbine at the side of the runway to generate energy, store it in battery cells and leverage the power in daily airport operations, such as electricity needs.

And a team of eight graders from John C. Dunham STEM Partnership School in Aurora, Ill., sought to solve for rising global carbon emissions challenges, creating severe weather patterns and biodiversity loss around the world. Using an approach they titled, CO2RS: A Cleaner Future, the team aims to put carbon scrubbers from a Hybrid-Na-CO2 system and a dual-engine to convert waste CO2 to electricity and methane, which can be used to fuel an environmentally friendly vehicle.

ExploraVision Prizes

The eight national winning teams are comprised of a first-place winner and second-place winner from four groups based on grade level. Members of first place nationally winning teams each receive a $10,000 U.S. Series EE Savings Bond (at maturity). Members of second place nationally winning teams will each receive a $5,000 U.S. Series EE Savings Bond (at maturity).

To ensure the health and wellbeing of ExploraVision finalists, their parent, coaches and Exploravision Weekend event staff during the continued COVID-19 outbreak, the NSTA and Toshiba have decided to cancel ExploraVision 28 awards weekend in Washington D.C., scheduled for June 2020. In lieu of the in-person event, regional and national winners are invited to participate in a digital event ceremony, during which winners will have the opportunity to showcase their winning ideas in a presentation to scientist, engineer, comedian, author and inventor, Bill Nye. The digital event will culminate with an awards ceremony where students will be formally recognized for their creativity and accomplishments.

For 28 consecutive years, ExploraVision has helped children to expand their imagination and have fun while developing an interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education at an early age. To learn more, visit https://www.exploravision.org/.

‘Safer at Home’: The Governor allows certain businesses to reopen, some Maui restrictions remain – Maui Time

UPDATE: County Managing Director Sandy Baz announced in the afternoon Wednesday, 5/6, that retail in shopping malls would be allowed to open on May 11. Further rules and guidance will be released soon.

Governor David Ige announced Tuesday that the state would begin Phase 1 of plans to reopen businesses and activities that have been closed due to the COVID-19 public health emergency. The changes to the stay-at-home order rules will go into effect Thursday, May 7. Some restrictions that have been lifted in the rest of the state will remain in effect on Maui.

Today was another victory in the battle with COVID-19, said Ige. Only four positive cases were reported. This makes more than two weeks of single-digit daily new cases. We have some of the lowest numbers of cases in the country and we have flattened the curve. Now we can continue our phased approach to reopening our local economy.

The governor added that he referred to several metrics before deciding to proceed with reopening the state, such as a declining trend in positive COVID cases, the capacity of the health system to handle any potential outbreaks, and robust testing and contact tracing.

We have achieved all of these metrics, Ige announced.

Phase 1 of the reopening plan is titled Stabilization, and allows businesses and activities categorized as low risk to begin opening, as long as they can maintain social distancing, sanitation, and workplace and customer safety requirements.

In addition to what is already deemed essential under current rules, the following businesses and activities will be allowed to open under the new state rules: non-food agriculture, including landscape, floral and ornamental; astronomical observatories and support facilities; car washes; pet grooming services; healthcare and social assistance, including elective surgery and non-emergent services; nonprofit organizations; retail businesses and services, including apparel, electronics and florists; shopping malls (except retail and shopping malls on Maui); and, wholesale and warehousing operations.

The Governor advised residents to check with their county to confirm restrictions. As of press time, the Mayors Office did not respond to a request to clarify any discrepancies between the state and county rules. The latest county guidelines are at Mauicounty.gov.

To reflect this new approach to our COVID-19 response, the stay-at-home order is now referred to as the safer-at-home order, said Ige. COVID-19 has taken a devastating toll on our economy. This is the first step in reopening businesses and getting people back to work.

The next steps to the reopening plan could be implemented in the coming weeks if progress against the disease continues, Ige said.

We anticipate making further announcements in the coming weeks, he said, mentioning restaurants, hair salons, and places of worship as considerations for the next phase of reopening.

But, Ige warned, The health of the community is still our overriding priority. We have seen a recurrence in several places around the world and we need to make sure that this doesnt happen in Hawaii.

If the new rules cause an uptick in cases, Some of the restrictions may need to be reinstated, Ige said. Your efforts have made this reopening possible. Your vigilance and commitment to social distancing are helping us win the fight against COVID-19. We are not out of the woods yet, but we are getting there.

Although encouraging people to shop at local businesses to stimulate the economy, Ige repeated the guidance, You are safer at home.

Mayor Michael Victorino Tuesday shared Iges optimism in looking at recent low positive COVID-19 test results, but continued to express caution and ask for Maui residents to cooperate with social distancing and hygiene recommendations.

Im not gonna just jump the gun and try to be out in front of everybody in this respect, said Victorino. Medical facilities in the county are limited, he explained, with small hospitals on Lanai and Molokai, and only 26 ICU beds and 24 ventilators for all of Maui island.

This whole county has done a very terrific job as far as compliance and following directions and following the policies set by not only the state, not only by the CDC and the feds, but here in the county itself and Im very grateful for that. Again remember, this will only work if you put the right foot forward, Victorino said.

I will open up as called for, but if anything starts to go wrong, I will not hesitate to shut down again, said Victorino. And I dont want to do that, so help me do it right. You can make a difference You can prevent COVID-19 from coming back if you follow these basic guidelines, what the CDC, WHO, as well as the State of Hawaii Department of Health has put out there. One guideline he emphasized was that although some stores would be open, they are not open for socializing and meandering aisles, but for focused shopping.

Victorino added that testing would continue to be ramped up in the county, including upcoming antibody testing. Also in the works is a Kamaaina Jumpstart program to stimulate the economy by encouraging locals to shop at locally owned businesses, which will in turn have special deals for kamaaina.

Last week, Victorino ordered the opening of select county parks for limited use, as well as golf courses. The latest county rules and open park list is available at Mauicounty.gov. The state safer-at-home order rules are at Governor.hawaii.gov. As of noon May 6, there have been 626 total cases in the state. Seventeen have died of COVID-19, 558 have been released from isolation, and 74 required hospitalization. In Maui County, there have been 116 total cases, with 6 deaths, 17 requiring hospitalization, and 93 released from isolation. The latest data and guidance from the state Department of Health is available at Hawaiicovid19.com.

Purpose: Amniotic membrane stem cells have a high capacity of proliferation, cell expansion, and plasticity, as well as immunomodulatory properties that contribute to maternal-fetal tolerance. Owing to the lack of research on human amniotic membrane at different gestational stages, the canine model is considered ideal because of its genetic and physiological similarities. We aimed to characterize the canine amniotic membrane (CAM) cell lineage in different gestational stages and evaluate the expression of immunomodulatory genes.Materials and Methods: Twenty CAMs from early (20 30 days) (n=7), mid- (31 45 days) (n=7), and late gestation (46 63 days) (n=6) stages were studied. The cell features were assessed by cell viability tests, growth curve, colony-forming units, in vitro differentiation, cell labeling for different immunophenotypes, and pluripotent potential markers. The cells were subjected to RT-PCR and qPCR analysis to determine the expression of IDO, HGF, EGF, PGE2, and IL-10 genes. Results: CAM cells exhibited a fibroblastoid morphology and adherence to plastic with an average cell viability of 78.5%. The growth curve indicated a growth peak in the second passage and we obtained an average of 138.2 colonies. Osteogenic, chondrogenic, and adipogenic lineages were confirmed by in vitro differentiation assays. Cellular immunophenotyping experiments confirmed the presence of positive mesenchymal markers (CD90 and CD105) and the low or negative expression of hematopoietic markers (CD45 and CD34). Qualitative analysis of the immunomodulatory functions indicated the expression of the IDO, HGF, EGF5, and PGE2 genes. When stimulated by interferon-gamma, CAM cells exhibited higher IDO levels throughout gestation. Conclusion: The CAMs from different gestational stages presented features consistent with mesenchymal stem cell lineage; better results were observed during the late gestation stage. Therefore, the gestational stage is a key factor that may influence the functionality of therapies when using fetal membrane tissues from different periods of pregnancy.

Though all animal stem cells are not approved by FDA, veterinary stem-cell manufacturers and university researchers have been adopting various strategies in order to meet regulatory approvals, and streamline and expedite the review-and-approval process. The vendors in the market are incessantly concentrating on research and development to come up with advanced therapy, in addition to acquiring patents.

In September 2017, VetStem Biopharma, Inc. received European patent granted to the University of Pittsburgh and VetStem received full license of the patent then. This patent will eventually provide the coverage for the ongoing commercial and product development programs of VetStem and might be also available for licensing to other companies who are rather interested in this field.

The other companies operating in the global market for canine stem cell therapy are VETherapy Corporation, Aratana Therapeutics, Inc., Regeneus Ltd, Magellan Stem Cells, Animal Cell Therapies, Inc., and Medrego, among others.

According to the Persistence Market Research report, the globalcanine stem cell therapy marketis expected to witness a CAGR of 4.2% during the forecast period 2017-2026. In 2017, the market was valued at US$ 151.4 Mn and is expected to rise to a valuation of US$ 218.2 Mn by the end of 2026.

Burgeoning Prevalence of Chronic Diseases in Dogs to Benefit Market

Adipose Stem Cells (ASCs) are the most prevalent and in-demand adult stem cells owing to their safety profile, ease of harvest, and use and the ability to distinguish into multiple cell lineages. Most early clinical research is focused on adipose stem cells to treat various chronic diseases such as arthritis, tendonitis, lameness, and atopic dermatitis in dogs.

A large area of focus in veterinary medicine is treatment of osteoarthritis in dogs, which becomes more prevalent with age. Globally, more than 20% dogs are suffering from arthritis, which is a common form of canine joint and musculoskeletal disease. Out of those 20%, merely 5% seem to receive the treatment.

However, elbow dysplasia in canine registered a prevalence rate of 64%, converting it into an alarming disease condition to be treated on priority. Thereby, with the growing chronic disorders in canine, the demand for stem cell therapy is increasing at a significant pace.

Expensive Nature of Therapy to Obstruct Growth Trajectory

Expensive nature and limited access to canine stem cell therapy has demonstrated to be a chief hindrance forestalling its widespread adoption. The average tier II and tier III veterinary hospitals lack the facilities and expertise to perform stem cell procedures, which necessitates the referral to a specialty vet hospital with expertise veterinarians.

A trained veterinary physician charges high treatment cost associated with stem cell therapy for dogs. Generally, dog owners have pet insurance that typically covers maximum cost associated with steam cell therapy to treat the initial injury but for the succeeding measures in case of retreatment, the costs are not covered under the pet insurance. The stem cell therapy is thus cost-prohibitive for a large number of pet owners, which highlights a major restraint to the market growth. Stem cell therapy is still in its developmental stage and a positive growth outcome for the market cannot be confirmed yet.
